Weston Pass

After descending Hagerman Pass we stopped in Leadville for gas and groceries then headed on to 11, 920 foot Weston Pass. The area had bygone remnants of mining days and beautiful views down into the valley where we would search for a campsite.

We searched for a spot we could stop for a couple of days after driving on some bone jarring roads for the past few days. And we found one. It was a great site on a creek and had views of the valley and the pass we had come through. It was obviously a hunters camp as there was fire wood left, a hanging rack for the gutting and cleaning of their animals (elk & deer hunting in the fall), and it even came complete with a handmade willow utility table!

We made a couple of great meals while there. Greek beans and cornbread and a very colorful meal of grilled salmon, roasted root vegetables, and broccolini. We certainly don’t scrimp on preparing appetizing meals, no freeze-dried here!

At this campsite we were entertained by a pair of Evening Grosbeaks, we really enjoyed this campsite!!!

  1. Why in the world did you not have your hiking stick with you when crossing that small stream? That is when you need it. And the Sound of Music moment also looked like a Harmonic Convergence moment as well
