Our Tallest Passes!

We crisscrossed the Continental Divide at several points while traveling down the spine of the mountains. At Cottonwood Pass we got out and took a short hike up to a summit point, 12,126 feet! Surprisingly, since we had been at higher elevations for a couple of weeks we didn’t have too much trouble catching our breath.

On top of the world!

We then headed on through the old mining town of Tin Cup on our way to Cumberland Pass, another 12,000 foot pass.

Do you see the Krazy K sticker?

We passed through more mining ruins near Tin Cup before landing at Quartz Campground in the Gunnison National Forest and settled in for a drizzly evening of rain on beautiful Quartz Creek.

  1. I would love to have a drizzly evening of rain right now.
Going through the passes did you have to “give her the gas, son”. That quote came from an old timer up at Rabbit Ears Pass. You all actually may have been close to that as it was just SE of Steamboat Springs
