Cape Henlopen State Park

The K2R2 then made its way to Delaware and its first trip to the Atlantic Ocean. The park is situated where the Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. The cape has long been a strategic location during war times and during WWII the army built Fort Miles with concrete observation towers and bunkers which today are still scattered about the park.

We got out on a cool and windy day and took a 6 mile hike along the beach and throughout the park which had some great trails and walking paths. The waves were crashing, the beach was pristine, and we did a little beach combing. There wasn’t much in the way of shells but we did collect some very colorful rocks. We enjoyed the solitude of this very pretty place.

  1. Looks like you all had the place to yourself. My kind of place! Nobody else around. It looked like a ship type vessel in the background in one picture as well as a lighthouse too
