BBRSP – Part 1 – Guale 2

Big Bend Ranch State Park – On the other side of nowhere – Bring 2 spares! That is the unofficial motto of the park and rightly so. This was our second trip to the state park, the last one being where we pulled in the pop-up camper. What were we thinking???? We spent 8 days and nights in the park at 4 different campsites this time around and had some amazing views, hikes, sunsets, and an appreciation for the hard-scrabble life the people that used to ranch here must have had. K2R2 was in its element…..the tough exterior coating, 4-wheel drive, and high clearance all came into play and performed admirably!

We hiked out on the Guale Mesa, tried to school ourselves on the various forms of cactus, enjoyed a lunch with a view, and discovered an animal den where indeed later a gray fox came out to begin its evening hunt.

Can you see the fox?

At the end of the day we were rewarded with beautiful sunsets, starry skies, and a great sleep in the quiet solitude of the desert.

  1. Great pics of the flora and fauna, and lunch with a view looks like an ideal place to sit, eat, relax, and take in the vastness of the Chihuahuan desert.

  2. Man those views are just simply amazing and so happy to see you guys out on the road!!

Glad that our sunflower seeds made it and kept you fueled! I’ll have to get some more planted soon.
