Travels With Tom

We embarked on a fall journey with Tom and his new rig making a loop from West Texas up into New Mexico and then into the Texas Panhandle. We packed a lot in during the 2 weeks that we traveled together enjoying good company, tasty meals, hiking, and scenic vistas.

We headed out meeting up together at Colorado Bend State Park before venturing west to the Fort Davis area. Along the way we stopped at the Presidio San Saba site, a Spanish mission built in the 1760’s near Menard, TX followed by a stop at Fort McKavett which was established in 1852. The surviving structures exemplify one of the most intact Texas Indian Wars posts existing today.

We headed to Fort Davis State Park for a night followed by a visit to the Chihuahuan Desert Nature center where we hiked a trail in Modesta Canyon then it was on to a beautiful campsite in Madera Canyon.
