Ricky, Lucy, Fred and Ethel way out west (Part 7)

For this hike we parked at the North Campground General Store because of its proximity to the Rim Trail / Sunrise Point Trailhead and therefore the closest drivable access point to Tower Bridge located along the south side of Fairyland Loop Trail. As we started the hike it was a windy, brisk morning. Once we were about a mile down the trial on the leeward side of the ridge and in the sunshine the climate was perfect for a hike.

In the sunrise the multicolored hoodoos appeared to glow!

We stopped for photos with the “Great Wall” as a backdrop. At Tower Bridge we saw the Williamson’s Sapsucker in the pines. Then we retraced our steps back to the parking lot.

Notice the rotated fault block over Ethel’s left shoulder. It’s called “The Sinking Ship”.

After one last stop at the Visitor Center’s giftshop we went to Ruby’s giftshop, RV park, Best Western, laundromat, buffet, steakhouse, horse rental, bus stop and gas station. What an absolute zoo! As the buses pulled in and disgorged the tourists we were sure that we had seen disturbed fire ant mounds with less activity. We pulled the plug all in favor of a hot shower back at quiet little old Kodachrome Basin State Park. Later in the night time as our campfire crackled in the quiet stillness of the cool desert air it was sending showers of glowing orange embers swirling into the cloudless sky creating a trail that we followed up in our trance like state into the memories of the beauty of Bryce Canyon.
