We had about a week between the birthdays of Avi and Bryce so we decided to take a loop tour of the southeast area of New Mexico that juts up to the corner of Texas. To break up the drive on our way to New Mexico we opted to stop at Lake Colorado City State Park located just off I-20 between Big Spring and Abilene, Tx. We were pleasantly surprised with the campground since it was so close to I-20 but it was quiet and had a high desert quality to it. We were the only ones in our campground loop and we were visited by curve billed thrashers, canyon towhees, house wrens, house finches, and a sighting of a great horned owl.

Then it was on to the mountains of New Mexico passing through Roswell and camping outside of Ruidoso in the Lincoln National Forest at the Baca National Forest Campground. We had beautiful views of the hills with lots of yellow color on the hillsides and definitely cooler temps! It was a couple of relaxing days soaking in the scenery and enjoying the cooler weather.

Next up….Three Rivers Petroglyph Site!

Yep. Remember those Texas shaped rocks well. I still have a couple at the dump. Rebecca looks natural behind the wheel of the RR
