Museum of the Fur Trade

After our snowy day we had one more day in Nebraska before heading to South Dakota. The weather was sunny and pleasant. We headed to the Museum of the Fur Trade which stands on the site of Boudreaux’s Trading post which was established in 1837 for the American Fur Company. The museum housed an impressive 6,000 plus items representing the early history of the fur trade. David also had a field day in the museum’s bookstore where he scored some great books including one by a research author who was present the day we were there.

We headed back to Fort Robinson State Park where we visited the Trailside Museum which is home to the fossil display “Clash of the Mammoths”. It features two bull mammoths who died with their tusks locked in combat and was discovered about 15 miles from the park.

Our time in Nebraska was interesting. There are many hidden treasures waiting to be discovered in what appears to be a vast nothingness on the High Plains.
