We awoke to the mountains shrouded in the mist at Granite Creek campground eager to go to the nearby hot springs just as they opened for the day. After slugging it out with a driving rainstorm and 8 miles of bad road the day before all I could think was, “this better be good.” And lo, it was good and we rejoiced in the goodness thereof.

This may have been one of the coolest CCC projects ever. Think about it. Out of a rock wall flows hot water that pours into a swimming pool on the side of a valley surrounded by towering peaks a few miles outside of Jackson Hole, WY. We were two of five people there. It was pure mountain water and no chlorine, salt or other chemicals. So refreshing that we forgot about the bone jarring drive up the valley the day before. As we were leaving, four SUV’s pulled up with 21 children and 5 adults from a day camp to go up to the hot springs! We were leaving just in time.

On the drive out the road had been graded that morning. What had taken nearly an hour the day before we covered in less than half that time.

Coming into Jackson Hole after where we had been previously was a culture shock. We made our way to Bin 22 where we had “been” before to have some wine and tapas. The order consisted of pork belly sliders, mushroom and swiss bruschetta, roasted asparagus, and tuna pate deviled eggs. It may have not been in Spain on a “Plaza Mayor” but it was every bit as good.

The next shock was shopping at Whole Foods where the new normal replaced the Dollar General old normal. Did I mention masks?
Then it was on in to Idaho with a stop at Henry’s Lake State park to hook-up for the night in order to have electricity, heat, showers, and to charge all the van batteries. It was to be in the 30’s for the night. I can’t believe how hot it is in Texas!!!
