We headed out early for our scheduled 4 hour dig at American Fossil Quarry which was out about 8 miles out on a bumpy road high up on a plateau outside Kemmerer, WY. We arrived and received our hammer and chisels and were given a demonstration on how to split the rocks. Everywhere around us in this big pile of rocks were other people chipping away and finding treasures, We jumped right in and got to work and were soon rewarded with what ended up being a total of 29 specimens for the day! It was exciting to carefully split open a rock and open it up to see what you might find.

The quarry was well set up with cutting stations to trim down your finds at the end of your day.

In our 2 years of adventures this ranked right up there as #1 of my coolest things to have done. We ended our 4 hour dig with tired backs, hands, and shoulders and headed back to the cabin to carefully wrap everything in bubble wrap. We had such a good time that we decided to go back the next day and do it again!
