Aransas National Wildlife Refuge

We took the auto tour of Aransas National Wildlife Refuge on our last day at Goose Island State Park, making a couple of stops to take some hikes looking for wildlife. We saw deer…..

We saw some American Wigeons,

We saw a bird I can’t identify,

We saw a willet,

We saw a Great Egret,

We saw a Bufflehead,

We saw a Tricolored Heron,

We saw Greater Yellowlegs,

We saw a Great blue heron,

But it’s always these guys that get everyone’s attention. Both of these alligators were well over 12 feet long! They were lounging in the warm afternoon sun like all the northern tourists along the Texas coast.

This guy was feeling so good in the sun he was drooling! We all noticed on the hike out to their area that it was the only place in the refuge that we did not see any evidence of feral hogs. Gators love pork!
