Black Hills -South Dakota

The Black Hills area of South Dakota are home to Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Monument, Custard State Park, the old west town of Deadwood, and nearby Badlands National Park and Devils Tower National Monument all of which we visited in our 10 day swing of the area.

Custard State Park is one of the nation’s largest state parks and is home to abundant wildlife, scenic drives, mountain lakes, and stunning vistas. We stayed 3 nights in the park and enjoyed taking the wildlife loop where we saw antelope, bison, bighorn sheep, prairie dogs, and even an elusive badger.

How they manage to perch on these ledges is a marvel
The park is home to more than 1300 bison
The elusive badger looking for a prairie dog meal
Tatanka! the mud splattered on K2R2 looked like a buffalo!

  1. Glad you got the picture of the badger. Obviously I have never seen one in person. Your campsite looks secluded. I bet it was quiet and I bet you could see millions of stars at night
