As we journeyed north through the grasslands of Kansas we came to the High Plains of Nebraska. We spent 4 days in the vicinity of Fort Robinson State Park exploring the area and experienced some extremes in the weather as well!
One area we explored was the Toadstool Geological Park. The stark other-worldly landscape was once an ancient river valley millions of years ago and home to bizarre beasts such as humpless camels, giant tortoises, miniature horses, pigs, and rhinoceroses. Over time water and wind erosion have sculpted the rocks into a badlands area complete with sandstone slabs resembling giant toadstools and the tracks of the ancient beasts that once roamed there.
