Mount Rushmore & Crazy Horse Monuments

The beauty of this area is there are so many things to visit in such a close proximity. We took a drive from Custard State Park to the town of Custard where the K2R2 got a much needed bath, our clothes got washed, we did some rock shop shopping and visited Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse monuments.

Spires of the Black Hills
Numerous tunnels along the route, the K2R2 barely squeezed through!
Curvy roads
Spring had not quite arrived
The majestic figures of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, & Lincoln
View of Mount Rushmore through one of the tunnels

The Crazy Horse Memorial is a work in progress. It will depict the Lakota warrior Crazy Horse riding a horse and pointing to his tribal land. The work has been going on for decades and will likely not be finished even in our lifetime. So far the head has been completed and work has begun on the arm.

  1. I always am stunned at how Mt. Rushmore was ever created. How somebody can do something on such a large scale from an up close position amazes me,
